KATS GO ON A MAN HUNT
Remember the film of 'The Lion in
Winter' with Peter O'Toole and Katharine Hepburn? A sort of 12th
century 'Dallas'.
Henry II (O'Toole), his estranged
wife, Eleanor of Aquitaine (Hepburn), three sons, Richard, Geoffrey and
John, current mistress, Alais, and her half-brother King Philip of
France gather for a family Christmas celebration in Chinon Castle. They
proceed to play a complex game of politics, power and possessions, where
the prizes are the Aquitaine, Alais and the throne of England. The
Christmas wine is in the pot and the added spices are that Eleanor has
been imprisoned in an English Castle for the last ten years for plotting
with Richard and Geoffrey to overthrow Henry; and Alais is betrothed to
Richard.
If you do remember the original film
you will probably love KATS' (Knebworth Amateur Theatrical Society)
Autumn production of James Goldman's original stage play – November
17-19. But you are unlikely to be able to help our man hunt. We are
looking for a couple of young men to complete the cast – any age from 18
– 40. All you need is courage (Richard), cunning (Geoffrey) and
confidence (both of them).
Rehearsals are due to start soon (we
meet on Mondays and Thursdays), so if you think you – or someone you
know – might be interested, stop reading now, pick up the 'phone and
call Jo Simson on 01438 814166. |
