A post office robbery took place in broad daylight at ten past four on Wednesday 21 January, one of the busiest times in the village, just after school turned out.
Descriptions of the weapon used vary from an axe to a sawn-off shotgun, but everyone is agreed that it was armed, a quick-witted lady posting her letters zipped round to the Co-op to 'phone the police and staff behind the post office counter pushed a panic button to lock the safe.
The getaway car is said to have been parked in
Haygarth. It's been some time since the post office was the subject of a raid, though it has been targeted several times in the past. It was a great relief when doors re-opened for business on the following Monday morning - queues stretched all around the shop.
The other thing on which everyone is agreed is that we don't want to lose our post office. |
