There has again been a lot of activity to report this
month. In addition to the usual committee meetings of the council there
were several other meetings which some members attended. For example, a
regular meeting with the Hertfordshire Highways Authority, attendance at
an East Herts. Inter Parish Conference to name but two. A busy time for
all involved. Please don't forget that all our Minutes are public records
and are available for you to read in the Library.
Inter-Parish
meeting
The Inter-Parish meeting took place on the 18th
February and was attended by representatives of some thirteen local Parish
councils. It is always useful to meet other parish councillors and hear
their experience of how they tackle problems that are common to us all. A
presentation was given on changes in the new Licensing Act 2003 and how
this would affect all licensed premises.
Pavilion
tender
The Recreation Ground Committee met on the 25th February and heard that
the Pavilion tender document would now be ready to be sent out to tender
by the 12th March. Quite a number of extra items have had to be included
to satisfy the requirements of our Football Foundation funding. It was to
be hoped to be able to call an Extra full Parish Council meeting to agree
on a contractor for this major project before the Annual Meeting of the
Parish.
Change in
Village Hall charges
The village Hall committee met on the 10th March and one of the items
discussed was hire charges for the Village hall for the year 2004/5. They
recommend an increase of only 3% for the year 2004/5. This would apply
from April and regular hirers would be informed.
In Memory
The Finance and General Purpose Committee, on
which most councillors serve, met on the same evening. Before this meeting
started all the members stood for a minute's silence in memory of Ann
Tooth who had died the previous week. Ann was a very active Parish
councillor until she was forced to retire with ill health.
Standing
Orders
Several big administrative items were dealt with by the F&GP
Committee, including a Review of our Standing Orders, which is a statuary
requirement. The meeting also agreed the schedule of meetings for the
coming year 2004/2005.
The contents and format of the leaflet that invites
everyone in the Parish to the Annual Meeting of the Parish was decided.
This leaflet will again be delivered to every household in the Parish and
in addition feature on the cover of the April Parish News.
Annual Parish
Meeting
A very important date for readers to note is Wednesday
the 5th May. This is the date for the ANNUAL MEETING of KNEBWORTH
PARISH. All the village is invited to this public meeting, when the
council reports back to the ratepayers just what the Parish Council has
been doing on their behalf in the past year. The accounts and minutes for
last year will also be available. After the statutory business and
reports, which are kept as short as possible, comes question time. This is
always a lively occasion when you can ask questions on matters that
concern you. A panel of representatives from County Council, District
Council, and the Police have been invited to help with the replies to
questions.
This event has always been a lively and enjoyable
occasion and the Village Hall is often very full. Please come early to get
a good seat. Light refreshments will be served from 7.30 for an 8.00 p.m.
start and the new sound system will be operating. We are all looking
forward to meeting you there. |
