KNEBWORTH NEWS - FEBRUARY 2013

From Jo Simson - 28th February

Pond Dipping:
March always takes us by surprise, so don't forget that it starts tomorrow. With is comes your opportunity, this Saturday is March 2, to do a bit of pond dipping. Cllr Kevin Burr welomes women and men with waders to a pond cleaning session in the Watton Road Recreation Ground from 9.30am.

Reason for God:
This Sunday March 3 sees the first session in the Reason for God course starting 7pm in St. Martin's Parish centre. The DVD-based course looks at the big questions surrounding Christianity in a discussion group over six sessions. For further details contact Rev'd Jim Pye on 01438 817396, email Click Here.

Indulge yourselves:
Goodness knows, with the bitter weather we have been having, a bit of self-indulgence wouldn't seem to come amiss. The Church stall on St. Martin's Green next Saturday March 9 from 9-11.30am should offer you the opportunity to do just that. You can pick up cakes, scones, preserves - and perhaps that special cake for Mothering Sunday, which is on March 10.

Organ Works:
Organist Derek Harrison will be giving a free illustrated talk and demonstration on how they make that fabulous sound on Saturday March 9 from 2pm. The talk is free, but if you want to treat yourself to lunch beforehand from 12.45pm you can do so for a mere £2.50. Call Kathy Cole on 01438 715589 or Kate Dickinson on 01438 225399 to book.

Who is Jesus?
That's the question the children and leaders of the Knebworth Family of Churches Good Egg Easter Holiday Club will be asking themselves. They'll have a lot of fun discovering the answers in drama, song, games, quizzes, craft and cookery. The sessions are 9-11 April, but invitations go out this week-end March 2/3. Come along for a cracking time - places are FREE but need to be booked. Contact Gill Hughes on 01438 814039, or email Click Here for a booking form.

Housing Consultation:
North Herts. District Council is currently consulting on how many new homes are needed in our area and where they should be. These are key questions. Some of the potential new housing sites are on the outskirts of Knebworth. The consultation ends March 28. To find out more, and make a response visit www.north-herts.gove.uk/housingoptions.

New Household Recycling Arrangements:
Are coming into force this year. Details are given on page 8 of the NHDC magazine Outlook, delivered recently to your door. If you have any comments or feedback email service@north-herts.gov.uk or call 01462 474000.

Have His Body:
KATS (Knebworth Amateur Theatrical Society)'s last production dealt with the serious subject of the right to decide to refuse medical treatment and a legal case hinging on the writ of Habeas Corpus. By a neat contrast, KATS Spring production, being staged in May, is Alan Bennett's Habeas Corpus, a hilarious farce set in the 1960s. Director Viv Richardson is holding readthroughs and castings tonight Thursday February 7 and Monday night, February 11. If you think you would like to be considered, contact Viv on 01438 367447.

Comedy Night:
Knebworth Football Club hope to have you in stitches with their Comedy Night this Saturday February 9 from 8-11pm in the Village Hall. Tickets are £12.50 from Jude Wheeler.  Cheques, payable to Mrs J Wheeler, should be sent to 62 Stevenage Road, Knebworth SG3 6NN, together with your contact details and the number of tickets required.

Soup lunches:
This is definitely the time of year for soup. There are two upcoming opportunities to enjoy some and help a good cause at the same time.
