KNEBWORTH NEWS - February 2012

From Jo Simson - 23rd February

Happy Birthday Knebworth And District Gardening Club:
Well, alright I don't know when their actual birthday is, but I do know that they are over 100 years old, so it is a pity that they are desperately short of members at the moment. If you are interested in gardening, gardening shows and gardening trips, they would love to meet you. Come along tomorrow Friday February 24 to St. Martin's Parish Centre, next to St. Martin's Church in the centre of the village for a social evening starting at 8pm. The evening will include pre Spring Show questions and answers. For further details contact Sheila Read on 01438 318441 or Gill Griffin on 01438 222040.

Shed some calories so others can gain some pounds:
If you enjoyed your pancakes this week you might like to shed a few of those calories and gain the rosy glow of helping others. This Sunday February 26, the Christian Aid Committee invite you to a Frugal Lunch in St. Martin's Parish Centre - clearly the hub of village social life this week. Your Sunday lunch of soup, bread and Rich Tea biscuits won't put on much weight for you, but it will contribute to the Philippines Appeal for those whose lives were devastated by the flash floods of December.

Bee-keeping for beginners:
Begins in Woolmer Green Village Hall next Wednesday 29 February. The four-week course plus a Saturday bee-keeping site visit costs £50. For more information contact Rachel on rachel.dalgleish@ntlworld.com or call 01707 321018.

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations:
2012 is definitely a milestone year. Not only is Knebworth School 100, the Gardening Club even older, but the Queen is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee. The Parish Council is looking for volunteers to organise a celebration Picnic in the Park. If you think you could be interested contact the Clerk on 01438 813794 or clerk.knebworth@btconnect.com.

A Night at the Races:
Don't worry, you won't get cold or wet, this one is in the cosy surroundings of the Robin Hood and Little John Pub in Rabley Heath, this Saturday 25 February, in aid of children's charity Dreams Come True Call the pub on 01438 812316 for more details.

A Day at the Running:
After the race, the Fun Run - in aid of British Heart Foundation - takes place at Knebworth House this Sunday February 26.

A morning Walk:
That one is this Saturday 25 February, led by Kathie Painter and nicknamed 'The Dog Walk'. It sets off from the Bell at Codicote at 10am. The length is 4-5 miles and details can be had from Kathie on 02033 558557.
