What an amazing organisational achievement.
Hopefully many Knebworthians were able to
take advantage of the many events organised by the Knebworth Festival
Committee, the second time it has been run in recent years.
The festival was opened by Barbara Follett on Friday
22 June. The following day, and no doubt to everyone's relief, fine
weather greeted the Garden Fête held on St Martin's Green. This
colourful event had something for everyone, including live music, a
bubble-blowing roundabout, a barbecue provided by local butchers,
Trussells, and a variety of games and stalls manned by members of local
organisations.
Local Arts Studio, Art Van Go, invited people to a
community paint-in as part of the Festival fun; every one of the squares
of a Van Gogh painting was filled in and you can view the results of
your labours at their studio in 1 Stevenage Road. The Flower Festival
organised by Sally Groves, which ran for 4 days in St. Martin's Church,
also took the theme of community. The arrangements, all done by local
people, were stunning and featured every aspect of village life.
'Walking' around the Church was an array of children's footwear, each
filled with flowers. These 'flowery footsteps' were contributed by
children from Knebworth School.
More events ran throughout the week including a harp
recital, fashion show, talk, Barn Dance and Supper, Cliff Richard
Tribute Band concert, Barbecue with Jazz and finally a Songs of Praise
event in the lovely twelfth century Church of St. Mary's.
Did anyone get to all the events?!!
