Parish AGM Meeting 3 May
2006
Last month readers were asked to note the date of
the Annual Meeting of Knebworth Parish on the 3rd May. Every household
should by now have received their new format Knebworth Parish Update
Newsletter and Invitation to this important meeting. Everyone is welcome so
please make the effort and support your Parish Council in this enjoyable and
informative event. This year will be the 112th year that such meetings of
our Parish have been held. Do come early to ensure a good seat as this event
is very popular, particularly for the public question and answer session
that follows the statuary business. The hall is often filled to capacity.
Light refreshments will be available from 7.30 p.m. and the meeting starts
at 8.00 p.m. An Improved sound system should enable everyone to hear all the
proceedings.
This above annual meeting marks the end of the council
‘year’ and also the four year ‘term’ of office of this Council. It is
excellent news that there are sufficient candidates this year to hold an
election. This election will take place on Thursday 4th May at the Village
Hall at the same time as the District Council elections take place. Everyone
is urged most strongly to use your vote. One of the declared aims of the
Parish Council is to obtain the status of a ‘Quality Council’ and one of the
essential requirements for this is that members are elected.
Reports
Since the last report the full Council and committees have met and a few of
the interesting items are shown below. Again a reminder that the full
Minutes of all meetings are available to read in the Library as well as from
the clerk.
Slip-sliding away!
A successful demonstration of a scrubber drier at the Pavilion would appear
to solve the problem of cleaning the anti slip floors and also the removing
of standing water afterwards. It was agreed therefore that this machine be
purchased. It was also reported that a new boot scraper is now being
installed outside the entrance so this should be a big improvement in
keeping most of the mud outside the changing areas. The provision of extra
ventilation fans was to be further investigated with the architect before
action was taken. It is hoped that the teething troubles now being
experienced and addressed in this new building will soon be resolved to our
satisfaction.
Pitching higher
The Knebworth Football Club announced that it had been so successful this
year that they have been promoted to a higher league. This is great credit
to the Club but it does also entail some changes to the pitch facilities. A
meeting took place to address these matters and it is hoped the requirements
can be agreed and that 2007 will be another great year for the Club.
Swinging times
Two new green steel benches are now installed in the Under 5 play area and
it is hoped they will be vandal resistant. The provision of new swings for
two of our playgrounds was discussed and will be actioned as early as
possible. New regulations now limit the height and number of swings per bay.
Disability pattern swings are being investigated as a possible part of this
initiative.
Face lift
Quotes for the expert professional cleaning of the War Memorial base and
inscriptions have been received and this work will take place shortly. The
bigger problem of what to do about the column and very eroded carvings at
the top is much more difficult to address but contact has been made with the
War Memorials Trust for help and advise on the way forward and possible
grant aid towards the costs.
Farewell
Finally, having served on the Parish Council for over 20 years and written
144 reports I have decided not to stand again for election. In consequence
this report will be the last under my name. The monthly reporting of the
smaller doings of the Parish Council has, I believe, now become an
established item of interest in the Parish News and on this website, which I
am sure will continue from strength to strength with new reporters. I thank
readers for their past support and comments. |
