Road closure
We have had notice that Deards End Lane will be
closed to through traffic from mid-March for 12 weeks. This is in order that
essential repairs can be carried out to the structure of the railway bridge.
No firm dates are to hand as we go to press.
Warmer meetings!
New double glazed windows for the Village Hall have now been ordered. Hirers
should find it less cold in there next winter.
Parish Plan publication
At the Parish Council meeting on 7th February the Council were finally able
to accept the text of Knebworth Parish Plan. This will be formally signed
over to the Parish Council soon. The Parish Plan team will then get it
published and it is hoped every household in Knebworth will have a copy.
More later but, meanwhile, a big vote of thanks is due to those residents
who have worked so hard on this since the Autumn of 2004.
Wind in the willows?
During the recent gales a tree was blown down in the area of scrub land near
the bottle banks. It needed clearing and the adjacent trees needed their
tops removed to avoid them being blown down in the next gale. Nobody seemed
to accept responsibility for this area of land so the Finances and General
Purposes Committee reluctantly agreed to recommend to the Parish Council
that we adopt that parcel of land and deal with the trees. Fortunately, at
the 23rd hour, Herts Highways have agreed to take on responsibility for the
area. Thanks to them.
Knebworth Youth Project closes
At a time when the Police and the Parish Council are making every endeavor
to engage with the youths of the area I am saddened to report the current
closure of Knebworth Youth Project, previously called the Youth Club. There
are no youth leaders available to run it and the County Youth Service have
been told that funding is not available for recruitment of more youth
workers. Please contact Sarah Parkhouse, Community Development Officer on 01438 219045 or email
Sarah.parkhouse@hertscc.gov.uk
if you wish to offer help or ask questions about lack of funding. I am in
touch with our elected representatives both at HCC and NHDC levels.
"Knebworth Gateways"
Finally we have agreed the design of the new Knebworth Gateways. A gateway
is a road sign saying “Knebworth twinned with etc…” Two will be erected and
paid for by Herts Highways. They will be on either side of the road at the
top of the B197 hill before you get to Deards End Lane. The sign will be
suspended between brick pillars – to mirror the brick at St Martin’s Church
and a coping stone on top of each pillar will mirror the roof of St Martin’s
Church. If we can get the funding we will remove the old wooden Gateway near
Monread Lodge and replace it with an identical brick pillared Gateway.
Young Persons of the Year Awards 2007
Congratulations to Penny Carver of Oakfields Avenue, Knebworth for winning a
runners up award at the Stevenage and WelwynHatfield Young Persons of the
Year Awards 2007. The awards, held at the GSK site on February 12th,
celebrate those young folk who give things back to the community and make a
difference to people’s lives. Penny’s award is in recognition of the massive
amount of time and energy she expends serving the Guiding and Ranger
movements. This includes being an official Herts International Trip Leader
to Ireland this year. Well done Penny! |
