Annual Parish Meeting
The well attended Annual Parish Meeting on May 7th was lively at times. The
main topic of questions from the floor was an idea that has been floated as
a possible solution to some of the parking problems in Knebworth. It is only
an idea at the moment but the suggestion is that a commuter car park could
be created in a field off Park Lane just beyond the Deards End Lane
junction.
Residents nearby jumped to a few incorrect conclusions but
also made it clear that there would be strong objections if the idea went
further. That is fair enough and I am delighted that one of them will be
joining the Knebworth Parking Initiative group (KPI) and will then be able
to report correctly any future discussions on the subject.
Knebworth Parking Initiative group
The KPI is made up of the following people. Our two district councillors
Jane Gray and Alan Bardett, our county councillor Richard Thake, Mike Moult
from the Village Trust, John Catt from the Parish Plan team. Parish
Councillors John Bantick, Robin Smith, Graham Fothergill and the clerk,
Simon Young - NHDC Transport Officer and a transport officer from the
police. This is not a Parish Council led group. It was started up by Jane
Gray, who also chairs the meetings. I should also stress that no
representative of Knebworth House is involved and it is only a matter of
chance that the field concerned is owned by Knebworth Park Estate. The name
of the new member will be revealed following the next KPI meeting.
Annual Meeting of the Parish Council
The Annual Meeting of the Parish Council took place on May 14th. The current
Chairman of the Parish Council, (Mr John Bantick) was reappointed for
another year. The Chairmen of the Village Hall committee (Mr Barry Hall),
Finance & General Purposes committee (Mr Anthony Titmarsh) and Planning &
Environment committee (Dr Graham Fothergill) were all reappointed and Mrs
Elisabeth Smith was appointed Chairman of the Recreation Ground committee,
replacing Mrs Carol Smith who had to step down because of pressure of work.
Recycling update
We have heard that from June 2nd, if you wish, you can put unwrapped food
waste into your brown bin, for recycling. A leaflet giving full details
should already have dropped through your door. If you haven't had one please
contact the NHDC recycling office on 0800 3286023 or 01462 474000 – not the
Parish Council please. |
