PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

July 2008

First an apology
Our triple mower went in for repair and a service. A two day job ended up being much longer and the grass on the Lytton Field play area and on the main Recreation Ground got very long over the May bank holiday time. We apologise for that unavoidable annoyance. Our grateful thanks to Mr Ken Ramsey who kindly offered to use his own machinery to cut the KGV playing field in Old Knebworth.

Village Youth Club
A youth club has met, on and off, for years in the Recreation Ground. It is hoped that, soon, the youth club will again be opening up for one night a week. The community room in the Pavilion will be turned into a sort of coffee shop for young people. This will, of course, be fully supervised. Just like before we expect young people will “Hang out” there , play games, listen to music and maybe even partake in some constructive activities. Just like before. They may also get a TV so they can watch DVD`s.

Licenced to play
One thing has changed since the youth club last met. The latest licensing laws dictate that all public buildings should have a licence to allow the playing of recorded music, including DVDs. The Parish Council will shortly be applying for this licence. It will be restricted to specific days and times, will be for recorded music only (no alcohol, no live music) and the finishing time will certainly not be late in the evening. The details of this application will be made public and the Parish Council intends putting details on a leaflet to be put through doors of properties bordering that part of the Recreation Ground.

I do urge residents to resist the temptation to react with horror at the perceived noise nuisance that will ensue. There will be no more recorded music played than has happened for many years at past clubs in the pavilion. It will not be noisy. It is just that, by law, we now have to go through this licensing process to enable the youth club to continue doing what it has been doing for many years.

Parish News editor steps down
And finally ! A big thank you on your behalf , to Carole Bantick, for the 16 years she has spent editing the Parish News. This month's is her final issue. We wish her well.
