PARISH COUNCIL NEWS

January 2007

Welcome to the New Year
The Parish Council hope you had a great Christmas. Our 4 working committees have met since my last missive and the full Parish Council will have met on December 13th, a week after the deadline for the issue of the Parish News. There will be more to tell you in February.

Litter Louts
I had a phone call on the morning of Saturday 2nd December reporting overnight damage on the main recreation ground. Large amounts of litter were strewn near the pavilion and on the first soccer pitch. Lots of young soccer players were arriving for their Saturday games. The sight of all that litter was not a good example to these young players. Fortunately our recreation grounds chairperson, Carol Smith, arrived with a rubbish bag and picked it all up. Thank you Carol.

Tennis club takes a hit
Meanwhile I was looking at major trashing of the tennis club hut. Broken furniture, tennis balls and rubbish across the courts and the bowling green. A few things have gone missing, including an electric kettle. If anyone does hear rumours or anyone bragging about this incident please do contact me or the police.

Our ancient monument
We have a milestone in the High Street, just outside the Burgess premises. Dr Graham Fothergill has been investigating getting it repaired and renovated. He has just reported that the milestone is, in fact, registered as an ancient monument. This mean that before we touch it we must go through a number of legal hoops. The first is to find out who actually owns the milestone. If anyone knows please contact the Parish Council. This story could keep our readers interested for the next 12 months or more.

Who said that?

"The object of a New Year is not that we should have a new year. It is that we should have a new soul."
