Parish Precept
The December meeting of the Parish Council confirmed the amount of money
that Knebworth will be asking for as the Parish Precept portion of the
Council Tax for 2007/8. The modest increase is roughly in line with
inflation.
Finances
Within the next financial year we will have paid off all building costs for
the recreation ground pavilion. We also expect that, with the help of North
Herts District Council grants, our Village Hall windows will be double
glazed and more play equipment can be installed at the KGV recreation ground
in Old Knebworth and the main recreation ground off Watton Road.
Parking Issues
You will have received a copy of the Knebworth Labour Party “Knebworth
Community News” in December. The front page refers to parking issues. There
are two main areas of concern. The first one is the High Street and the
second is the area around the station where commuters are parking. The
Parish Council and our NHDC councillors are already in discussion about
this. We may initiate a public meeting to discuss parking issues. I would
like readers to consider the following options and if you have comments or
other possible solutions please contact me.
- PERMIT PARKING – in Pondcroft Rd, Gun Lane, Park
Lane, Deards Wood, Lytton Fields etc….
- Who will police this on a daily basis ?
- Are residents willing to pay annually for this ?
- RESTRICTING PARKING near the station until after 9.30
seems a good idea but this needs to be policed and with the increase in
the number of folk using Knebworth station to travel by Travelcard
(because of the restriction imposed at Stevenage on the hours you can
return from London) we may need to restrict parking until 10.30.
- The suggestion, made in the Labour Party leaflet, to
reduce the charges for Parking in the station car park seems to me a non
starter as the car park is usually full anyway.
It may be that we will be forced to accept the parking
fraternity in the area West of the station but we should expect that traffic
wardens will ensure that access and egress from roads and drives is not
impaired by indiscriminate parking.
It is difficult but the Parish Council will ensure that
these issues are addressed and, where possible, solutions put in place.
