The Big Lottery Fund is holding a free funding event for organisations based in and around the rural areas of Stevenage in Knebworth Village Hall next Thursday June 20th. Stephen McPartland, MP, will be opening the briefing event for representatives of not-for-profit and community groups, schools and Parish Councils based in the area and looking for funding. Knebworth Parish has a vacancy for a Children and Families Outreach worker. The 1 year, part-time paid contract of 10 hours per week, starts in September. New household recycling arrangements are coming into force this year, which include a new bin for non-recyclable rubbish, leaving the existing grey bin free for all recyclable waste, except paper, which would still go in the blue box. Cardboard would no longer go in the brown bin, but in the mixed recycling bin, the brown bin would contain garden and food waste only, compostable bags will be supplied. The black box would no longer be required, as glass and cans would go into the mixed recyclable bin. Unfortunately the full details, which are given on page 8 of the NHDC Magazine Outlook, are a little confusing. They refer to the "new bin" for non-recyclable rubbish which will end up in landfill, then the "new mixed recycling bin" to be used for all the recyclable stuff (except paper). I guess the "new mixed recycling bin " is the old grey bin. Perhaps someone can correct me if I have misunderstood. Losing weight will be on the agenda for lots of us in the New Year, following the seasonal excesses, something that I had to do last January in preparation for an operation. I lost 5 stones (70 lbs) and the most wonderful thing was, that I never felt hungry whilst doing so, all thanks to Ann Pugh, who introduced me to The “Forever” Weight Loss Programme.

Ann followed up with regular contact and encouragement and I am thankful to her for all her efforts. After Christmas, I shall be back on the "Programme" with the intention of losing another two or three stones by Spring time, when I am hoping the operation will be able to take place. Eyes Down for a Full House:
From next Friday June 14th, weekly lunchtime Bingo sessions come to the Station Pub, Knebworth. The Bingo sessions are in aid of North Herts. Cats Protection. £2 a game and the cash prize is shared between the winners and the cats. An optional seniors' meal is available for just £4.99 for two courses.

Knebworth Festival:
A colourful edition of the Parish News for June is now out with a double-page centre-spread on Knebworth Festival. The Festival runs from 21st to 30th June. Events include a new play about Emily Wilding Davison, the suffragette who threw herself under a horse, a talk on the UK Space industry (see below), a concert featuring Knebworth Community Chorus, Pimms on the Terrace and tours of the Secrets of Knebworth House gardens. The centrepiece of the Festival is the mega Fun Day in the Recreation Ground on Saturday 29th June; all the fun of the fair, plus a music zone, Pimms bar and hog roast. You can pick up a copy of the Parish News, and all your tickets for ticketed Festival events, at the Festival BoxOffice, aka Village News, Station Road.
